music for solo flute
Crossing Yam Suph, for flute with reverb $19.99
Crossing Yam Suph is an evocative piece for solo flute accompanied by a gentle reverb. The piece uses a variety of extended techniques to celebrate a haunting journey across the Sea of Reeds. Because it includes singing, the piece should be performed by a flutist with a vocal (singing) range from B3 to G5.
May the birds and the winds sing you forward on this strange and difficult journey!
Healing Story, for solo flute $14.99
"Healing Story" was requested as healing music in commemoration of the anniversary of the global pandemic of 2020-2021. The piece was composed during late winter hiking, when the year’s many layers of snowfall were just beginning to melt. Streams of melting ice and snow were beginning to form—underneath the snow! The water could be heard burbling down the mountain, deep beneath the surface of the snow. The ice caverns that formed these conduits also acted as resonance chambers for the journeying groundwater, and much of Healing Story aims to capture the strange and beautiful resonance that such a cavern provides for a burbling stream. When a stream’s passageway inevitably melts to the ground, the stream escapes into open air and continues its descent above a saturated stream bed. In these places, an unbelievably iridescent green algae comes to line the path of the stream and escort it down the mountain.

The Sunken Forest, for flute and piano $24.99
The Sunken Forest is a duo for flute and piano that was composed at the Fire Island National Seashore, a small, nationally- protected segment of the thirty-two-mile-long barrier beach island called Fire Island, NY.
"The most constant thing about life on Fire Island is change. Natural forces continuously reshape the 32-mile long barrier island. Only the most stable structures, natural or man-made, can withstand this dynamic environment. The Sunken Forest supports several ecosystems—each with its own distinct climate, soil and vegetation. Sometimes the ecosystems closely interrelate, such as the freshwater bogs which dot the maritime forest. In other cases, the boundaries between ecosystems are more sharply defined, as between the swale and the forest."
